This project is influenced by the work of Hamish Fulton, whose practice is rooted in walking as both a physical act and a conceptual framework. Fulton’s work often takes the form of photographs, text, and installations that document walks, but crucially, the walk itself is the artwork. The images function as traces or markers of an experience that cannot be fully reproduced. This idea directly informs my approach. While Fulton’s work is based on the act of walking, my project focuses on the inability to perform a previously routine physical activity—running. In revisiting these routes, I am not documenting the act itself, but its absence. Like Fulton, the images act as evidence of a relationship between body and landscape; however, in my work, that relationship has been disrupted.Fulton’s use of sequencing and installation is also significant. His works are often arranged to reflect the structure or duration of a walk, encouraging the viewer to engage with the work over time. This has influenced my decision to present my images in a linear format, where the viewer physically moves along the sequence, echoing the rhythm of running.
